Sri Lanka is the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, the Teardrop-island paradise with abundant wildlife, pristine beaches, sacred temples and lush tea plantations. It is an incredibly diverse island where cultural architecture blend with geographical diversity and the wildlife viewing is like no other.

Get down to grass root level and be part of a worthwhile project. You'll be immersed in the local culture and ecology in the Wasgamuwa region in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, home to wild Asian elephants, sloth bears, leopards and many other endangered wildlife in one of the most biodiverse areas in Sri Lanka. Or be part of the Marine Project in the Kalpitiya Peninsula which consists of 14 islands in the Puttalam District in the Northwestern Sri Lanka.   

This volunteer holiday is certainly ethical; you are directly helping local initiatives in Sri Lanka. SLCWS began to take in volunteers in 2002 and the revenues generated through these fees are critical to supporting their conservation research and community work.  

If you have the skills, you could help create new databases, conduct statistical analysis, write reports, articles, grant proposals, design and maintain a website, program web applications or software. There are so many things that can help the SLWCS, they are open to ideas as well.
