About the Makers
We work directly with Gurune (Frafra) weaving cooperatives around Bolgatanga, Northern Ghana—no middlemen. Many of these master craftswomen learned their skills from mothers and grandmothers, preserving a family legacy in every fibre. By sourcing directly, we ensure fair payment and community reinvestment, empowering women in a region where agriculture alone can’t guarantee steady income.

How Your Purchase Can Make a Difference
Every basket you buy goes straight to the artisans in Bolgatanga—no intermediaries. Your support:
-
-
Secures Fair Wages: Ensures weaving remains a viable livelihood for Gurune families
-
Preserves Cultural Heritage: Keeps ancient techniques alive for future generations
-

-
How these African baskets are made
The baskets are handwoven from sustainably sourced Elephant Grass.
Elephant grass grows wild throughout Bolgatanga, but people have also begun to grow it in their smallholdings to supplement their income and for their own basket weaving. It is cut, dried and dyed and then twisted, coiled and knotted into the beautiful shapes that Bolgatanga is famous for!

These woven basket bags are sturdy, strong, and flexible, made to withstand constant use. If properly cared for, your basket will live a long life.
-
Dust Regularly: Use a soft brush or dry cloth to remove surface dust.
