Day 1: Elegant Guest House
Set in a tranquil suburb close to both restaurants and the city centre, this stylish development is perfectly placed for self-drive guests taking their first night in Windhoek.
Day 2: Zebra Kalahari Lodge, Kalahari
Drive through the contrasting Kalahari Desert, where game languishes under trees or in pans, here you can immerse yourself into the Kalahari desert. Activities in the game reserve include sunset game rides on an open air 4×4 vehicle or on a quad bike or a walk with the Bushman (San). Leaving early from Windhoek you will have time to try to be simply be in the Kalahari.
Day 3: Quivertree Forest Rest Camp, Keetmanshoop
Quiver Tree Forest is a sea of spikes and twisted trunks, while the neighbouring ‘Giant’s Playground’ is an evocative expanse of strange rock formations. Both offer superb opportunities for photography, particularly at sunset. Guests can look forward to exploring the scenic and historic attractions of this amazing place and enjoy an array of wonderful activities.
Day 4 - 5: Canyon hike with 2 overnight at camp Eternity and / or Camp Edge
Carving out an epic rocky wonderland in the south of Namibia, the Fish River has created Africa’s largest and the world’s second largest canyon. Hot, dry and stony, the Fish River Canyon measures a whopping 160 kilometres in length, at times 27 kilometres in width and 550 metres in depth.
The guided route through harsh terrain descends steeply into the canyon via ‘jelly legs gorge’ and up again to the rim. Whilst this hike requires significant levels of fitness – there is no need to carry heavy backpacks; a canvas bag with your personal belongings will be delivered each day to either Camp Eternity or Camp Edge where you will overnight. On hot days you can cool off in permanent rock pools and swim between the rock faces while a Pied Kingfisher watches from a ledge above. A true wilderness experience.
Day 6 - 7: Klein-Aus Vista Desert Horse Inn
Klein Aus is a beautifully positioned private farm located on the edge of the Namib Desert, with spectacular views from the boulder strewn hillsides across wide open plains. Apart from affording grand vistas into the vast expanse of the desert it is an ideal starting point for excursions: to the Wild Horses of the Namib, to the diamond ghost town of Kolmanskop, or into the most diverse desert on earth.
Days 8 - 9: Tok Tokkie 2 night Trail
Although you will be in the middle of pristine nature you can look forward to little luxuries - sundowners, 3-course dinners and other meals out in the dunes. Sleep out under a billion stars and listen to the silence, it can be deafening! Enjoy hot bucket shower and open air toilet with splendid vistas. The walking is easy, as you only carry your day-pack, teh rest of your equipment for an overnight sensation in the desert is taken for you. Arrive in camp to fins everything set up for you so you can rest your feet and enjoy the wide open views.
Days 10 – 11: Desert Quiver Camp, Sesriem
Desert Quiver Camp uniquely combines modern self-catering accommodation with comfort and style. Conveniently located a mere 5km from the entrance gate to Sossusvlei, the inspiring scenery characterised by granite outcrops, spectacular views and roaming wildlife will captivate your senses. Climb the dunes of Sossusvlei and walk amongst the trees of Dead Vlei, one of the most striking and memorable sights of Namibia.
Days 12 - 13: Bullsport, Naukluft Mountains
Located in Central Namibia, the Naukluft Mountains cut a fine silhouette against the vast open skies of this incredibly beautiful country. These mountains support an array of wildlife including over 50 mammal species such as leopard, mountain zebra; various antelope species and almost 200 species of bird. Quiver trees, clear rock pools, mountain zebras and rare klipspringer antelope can be found here, as well as the smaller aspects of beautiful flowers and bird life. The guest farm offers breath-taking guided 4x4 excursions onto the Naukluft Plateau, and a wide selection of hiking and horse riding options.
